Objective To investigate the effects of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation(rTMS)combined with pediatric syrup on attention span and neurotrophic factors in children with autism. Methods 86 children with autism were divided into the control group(n=43)and the observation group(n=43)according to different treatment plans. On the basis of routine com-prehensive rehabilitation training treatment for both groups, the children in the control group were further treated with pediatric syrup, whereas the observation group were treated with rTMS combined with pediatric syrup. Both groups were treated for 6 months.Autism Treatment Evalua-tion Checklist(ATEC)and Autism behavior checklist(ABC)scores(evaluated from 4 dimen-sions,namely,social,verbal communication, perceptual, and health behaviors,respectively),com-prehensive attention[detected using the audio-visual Integrated Continuous Processing Test(IVA-CPT)software,and computed comprehensive attention quotient],and serum brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF)levels were compared between the two groups before treatment and 6 months after treatment. Results The ATEC and ABC scores of the 2 groups in social, verbal communication, perceptual, and health behavior dimensions were significantly lower after treat-ment than those before treatment;the attention quotient was significantly higher after treatment than those before treatment;the improvement of the observation group was more significant than that of the control group, and the differences were all statistically significant(P<0.05).The level of BDNF in the Observation Group after treatment was significantly higher than that before treat-ment and that in the control group after treatment(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the level of BDNF in the control group before and after treatment(P>0.05).Conclusion rT-MS combined with pediatric syrup might be more advantageous than pediatric syrup treatment a-lone in promoting the growth and development of neurons in the brain of autistic children,impro-ving comprehensive attention, and alleviating core symptoms and the extent of the disease. It can be conducive to normal growth and development of children with autism.
