Transurethral Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate and Transurethral Plasma Bipolar Resection of the Prostate in Moderate Volume Prostatic Hyperplasia:a Comparative Study
Objective To compare the clinical efficacy and safety of transurethral holmium la-ser enucleation of the prostate(HoLEP)with transurethral plasma bipolar resection of the pros-tate(BPRP)in the treatment of patients with moderate volume prostatic hyperplasia(BPH).Methods 85 patients with moderate volume BPH(prostate volume of 30-80 mL)were divided in-to the HoLEP group(n=46)and the BPRP group(n=39)based on surgical procedures;surgery-related indexes(including operation time, intraoperative bleeding, postoperative hospitalization time, urethral catheter retention time and bladder irrigation time, etc.),postoperative complica-tions,and preoperative and postoperative International Prostate Symptom Score(IPSS Score),Quality of Life Score(QOL Score),maximal urinary flow rate(Qmax),and residual urine(PVR)were compared between the 2 groups. Results Postoperative hospitalization time, intraoperative bleeding, and urethral retention time were significantly reduced in the HoLEP group compared with the BPRP group(P<0.05).Postoperative IPSS score,QOL score, and PVR value were sig-nificantly reduced in both groups compared with the preoperative period(P<0.01),and Qmax value was significantly increased compared with the preoperative period(P<0.01),and the improve-ment in the IPSS score,QOL score, and Qmax value of HoLEP group was more significant com-pared with the BPRP group(P<0.05).There were no electrotomy syndrome and adverse transfu-sion events in the 2 groups, and the difference in the incidence of postoperative complications be-tween the 2 groups was not statistically significant(P>0.05).Conclusion HoLEP and BPRP are both safe and effective in the treatment of patients with moderate volume BPH;compared with BPRP,HoLEP could significantly shorten postoperative hospitalization time, and urinary catheter retention time, and it could also reduce the amount of intraoperative bleeding, alleviate patients'symptoms and improve the patients'quality of life more distinctly.
