Microbial Metabolites Short-chain Fatty Acids in Parkinson's Disease:a Review
Parkinson's disease(PD)is a neurodegenerative disease pathologically characterized by nigrostriatal neuronal degeneration and a-synuclein(a-syn)aggregation,and there is a great correlation between its pathological mechanisms and gut microorganisms, especially its metabolite short-chain fatty acids(SCFAs),which play an important role in the occurrence and development of PD.Various SCFAs can exert neuroprotective effects on PD through gut barrier, inflammatory response, oxidative stress, apoptosis and autophagy. This article provides a review of recent re-search advances regarding the changes in the levels and mechanisms of action of SCFAs in PD pa-tients.
