Liuzijue Combined with Inspiratory Muscle Training on Functional Recovery in Cervical Spinal Cord Injury
Objective To explore the effect of Liuzijue combined with inspiratory muscle training on functional recovery in patients with cervical spinal cord injury. Methods 42 patients with cervical spinal cord injury who were treated in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine of the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University from January 2022 to July 2023 were randomly divided into the intervention group and the control group, with 21 cases in each group. The control group received routine rehabilitation therapy and inspiratory muscle training, while the intervention group were further given Liuzijue training. Both groups received 4-week rehabilitation interventions, and inspiratory muscle function[(maximum inspiratory pressure(MIP)and peak inspiratory flow rate(PIF)],neurological function(international standard for neurological classification of spinal cord injury,7th edition),and daily living ability(modified barthel index scale,MBI)were assessed before and after the treatment. Results After treatment, the MIP,PIF and motor scores in the two groups were significantly increased compared with those before treatment(P<0.05);the scores of light-touch sensation, pinprick sensation, and MBI in the intervention group were better than those before treatment(P<0.05),whereas the difference in the control group was not statistically significant(P>0.05).After treatment, the MIP,PIF and motor scores,as well as MBI scores, were higher in the intervention group than those in the control group(P<0.05);there was no statistically significant difference in light-touch sensation score and pinprick sensation score between the 2 groups(P>0.05).Conclusion Compared with inspiratory muscle training alone, routine rehabilitation intervention further with Liuzijue can positively improve inspiratory muscle function, motor function and daily living ability for patients with cervical spinal cord injury, beneficial for their overall rehabilitation.
