Objective To investigate the diagnostic value of narrow band imaging in nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Methods Patients(219 cases)with suspected diagnosis of NPC were examined by rhinoscopy. They were sprayed with 1%ephedrine and 1%tetracaine,and examined by Olympus electronic endoscopy with NBI and white light(WL)mode by the same physician.Pathological examination results,NBI and white light endoscopic diagnosis results were collected.Making statistical analysis of the diagnostic sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and coincidence rate between NBI and WL modes. Results Pathological examination results were NPC(96 cases)and Nasopharyngeal chronic inflammation or Nasopharyngeal granulomatous inflammation(123 cases). There were no significant difference in diagnostic sensitivity(88.5%vs 82.3%)and negative predictive value(91.1%vs 83.8%)between NBI and WL(χ2=1.51、2.84,P>0.05);The diagnostic specificity(91.9%vs 71.5%),positive predictive value(89.5%vs 69.3%)and diagnostic coincidence rate(90.4%vs 76.3%)of NBI were higher than WL(χ2=17.00、12.48、15.80,P<0.05).Conclusions The specificity, positive predictive value and coincidence rate of NBI in the diagnosis of NPC were higher than WL,It has good diagnostic value for NPCs.
