Objective To investigate clinical effect of bilateral decompression under foraminoscopic unilateral approach in the management of senile lumbar spinal stenosis(LSS).Methods A total of 60 elderly patients with LSS from January 2023 to September 2023 were selected and divided into the control group(30 cases)and the observation group(30 cases)according to the randomized numerical table method;the control group underwent posterior total laminar decompression and bone grafting combined with pedicle screw internal fixation(PLIF),whereas the observation group underwent bilateral decompression under foraminoscopic unilateral approach;surgical results, lumbar spine function[assessed using the Japanese Orthopaedic Association Assessment of Treatment(JOA)score,Oswestry Dysfunction Index(ODI)],and quality of life[assessed using the WHO Quality of Life Measurement Scale Short Form(WHOQOL-BREF)score]were compared between the 2 groups after 3 months of treatment. Results At 3 months postoperatively, the total excellent rate of treatment in the observation group was higher than that in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05);the JOA score and the various scores of WHOQOL-BREF in the observation group were higher than those in the control group, and the ODI was lower than that in the control group, and the differences were all statistically significant(all P<0.05).Conclusions Bilateral decompression under foraminoscopic unilateral approach can potentially manage senile LSS,improve lumbar function and better patients'quality of life.
