Objective To investigate the effectiveness of Healthcare Failure Mode and Effects Analysis(HFMEA)methodology combined with Six Sigma DMAIC procedure in reducing risk events in ophthalmic operating rooms. Methods 200 patients, who underwent inpatient surgery in the Affiliated Eye Hospital of Nanchang University from November 2022 to May 2023,were selected using the convenience sampling method and categorized as the control group, and 200 patients, who underwent inpatient surgery from June 2023 to November 2023,were categorized as the study group. In the control group, the current routine process was carried out with surgical management, whereas in the study group, the HFMEA method combined with DMAIC process management was implemented. The incidence of adverse events and patients'satisfaction with nursing were compared between the 2 groups. Results The incidence of adverse events in the study group(1.50%)was significantly lower than that in the control group(7.00%,P<0.05);patients'satisfaction scores in the study group were significantly higher than those in the control group on both surgical care in operating rooms and the preoperative and postoperative visits(P<0.001).Conclusions The HFMEA methodology combined with DMAIC procedure can significantly optimize nursing procedure, enhance risk identification and prevention, improve patients'satisfaction, and promote the quality and efficiency of surgical process management in ophthalmic operating rooms.
