The Effect of Compound Essential Oil Acupoint Massage Combined with Far-infrared Radiation on Restless Leg Syndrome in Hemodialysis Patients
Objective To explore the effect of compound essential oil acupoint massage combined with far-infrared radiation on restless leg syndrome(RLS)in hemodialysis(HD)patients.Methods 50 HD patients with RLS were selected and randomly divided into the observation group and the control group,25 patients in each group.The control group was treated with medication and far-infrared radiation,whereas the observation group was further treated with acupoint massage with compound essential oils.Both groups were treated for 8 weeks.Actual duration of hemodialysis,the number of early termination of hemodialysis,urea clearance index(Kt/V),urea reduction rate(URR),the Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)symptom scores,the International Restless Legs Syndrome Scale(IRLS)scores,and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI)scores were observed in the 2 groups.Results Compared with the control group,the actual duration of hemodialysis in the observation group was prolonged(P＜0.05),and the number of early termination of hemodialysis was significantly reduced(P＜0.001).After treatment,the Kt/V and URR in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group(P＜0.05,P＜0.001).There was no statistically significant difference in the TCM,IRLS,and PSQI scores between the 2 groups before treatment(P＞0.05);after treatment,the TCM,IRLS,and PSQI scores in both groups decreased compared with before treatment(all P＜0.05),and the above scores in the observation group was better than those in the control group(all P＜0.001).Conclusions Compound essential oil acupoint massage combined with far-infrared radiation can alleviate clinical symptoms of hemodialysis patients with RLS,positively prolong actual dialysis time and reduce the number of premature termination of hemodialysis,contributing to the improvement of hemodialysis adequacy and sleep quality in patients.
