The Relationship between Self-esteem and Non-suicidal Self-injury in Adolescents:a Review
Non-suicidal self-injury(NSSI)has become an important public health issue among adolescents.As a psychological state of individuals,self-esteem is affected by many factors,among which family and school are significant for the development of adolescents'self-esteem.Some studies suggest that there is a negative correlation between adolescents'self-esteem level and NSSI.Self-esteem may play a mediating or moderating role in the relationship between other variables and NSSI,and may also have an indirect impact on NSSI through other variables.Some research suggests that adolescents'self-esteem levels are negatively correlated with NSSI,and self-esteem may play a mediating or moderating role in the relationship between other variables and NSSI,as well as having an indirect effect on the NSSI through other variables.Therefore,it may help reduce the occurrence of NSSI behaviors to actively cultivating adolescents'self-esteem.This article reviews the relationship between self-esteem and NSSI in adolescents,aiming to provide a new perspective for the prevention and control of NSSI.
