Lipid Subgroups and Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease:a Review
Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease(ASCVD),characterised by high morbidity and lethality,is a major contributor to the global disease burden.Dyslipidemia, especially low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C)abnormality,is one of the major risk factors for ASCVD.It has been found that ASCVD risk still exists in populations with normal LDL-C,and furthermore,it has been shown that lipid subgroups are more accurate than LDL-C in predicting ASCVD risk.Since the discovery of lipid subgroups, researchers have been searching for lipoprotein subfractions with high atherogenic properties that could provide new biomarkers and therapeutic targets for ASCVD.This article provides a review of the nature of lipid subgroups, detection methods, and the correlation with ASCVD,in order to provide a theoretical basis for the clinical predictive value of lipid subgroups.
