Efficacy of Wanying Capsule Combined with Ibuprofen for Hyperthermia in Children with Acute Upper Respiratory Tract Infection
Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Wanying Capsule combined with ibuprofen in the management of moderate to high fever in children with acute upper respiratory tract infection(AURI).Methods 72 outpatient AURI children with moderate to high fever were selected as the study subjects and divided into an observation group(36 cases)and a control group(36 cases)according to randomized numerical table method. The control group was treated with ibuprofen(as needed),while the observation group was treated with Wanying Capsule plus ibuprofen(as needed). Both groups were treated for 3 days, and medication could be stopped at any time during treatment if the child recovered. The efficacy(disease recovery rate)of the 2 groups was compared,as well as changes in blood lymphocyte counts and C-reactive protein(CRP)levels before and after treatment;the onset time of antipyretic fever, the time of complete antipyretic fever, average daily dose and frequency of ibuprofen, and the occurrence of adverse events(such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, stomach discomfort, vomiting, acid reflux, belching, rash, dizziness, headache, and chest tightness)were also compared between the 2 groups. Results The disease recovery rate in the observation group was higher than that in the control group(80.56%vs.44.45%,P<0.01);after treatment, the levels of blood lymphocytes and CRP in both groups were lower than those before treatment(both P<0.05);the levels of blood lymphocytes and CRP in the observation group were lower than those in the control group after treatment(both P<0.05);the onset time of antipyretic and complete antipyretic time in the observation group were shorter than those in the control group, and the average daily dose and frequency of ibuprofen in the observation group were also lower than those in the control group(all P<0.05);no adverse events were reported in either group. Conclusion The combination therapy of Wanying Capsule and ibuprofen demonstrated positive efficacy in the management of moderate to high fever in children with AURI,with rapid onset of antipyretic fever. This drug combination can achieve the shortening of disease course by reducing inflammatory responses, with desirable safety profile.
