Comparison of clinical efficacy between double eyelid blepharoplasty with continuous buried suture technique and incision method in correcting congenital unilateral single eyelid
Objective To compare the therapeutic efficacy between double eyelid blepharoplasty with continuous buried suture technique and incision method in patients with congenital unilateral single eyelid. Methods A retrospective analysis was carried out fo-cusing on the case data of patients with congenital unilateral single eyelid who were treated by the author from October 2016 to October 2022.The patients were divided into two groups depending on the surgical methods:one group underwent double eyelid blepharoplasty with con-tinuous buried suture technique(continuous suture group),and the other group received incision method(incision group). Before surgery, the upper eyelid features were analyzed.Postoperatively, surgical complications were followed up and recorded, and patient satisfaction was investigated. Results Of the 24 patients,21(including 10 in the continuous buried suture group and 11 in the incision group)were followed up for 3 to 60 months(mean 9.6 months). No complications occurred in both groups. The satisfaction investigation showed a self-perceived edema regression time of 2 to 6 d(an average of 4 d)in the continuous buried suture group, without periocular bruisingor scar formation. The patients had good subjective experience and rapid postoperative recovery.Nine(90%)patients were very satisfied and 1(10%)was satisfied. In the incision group, the self-perceived edema and bruising regression time was 7 to 60 d,with an average of 20 d.The subjec-tive experience of the patients was good, but they generally reflected a long recovery period and an unnatural double eyelid shape with lin-ear scar.Seven(64%)patients were very satisfied and three(27%)were satisfied, and 1(9%)felt a moderate effect. Conclusion In the correction of the congenital unilateral single eyelid, double eyelid blepharoplasty with continuous buried suture technique is especially suitable for cases without obvious skin laxity, upper eyelid swelling,or need for skin and fat removal. It has the advantages of simple opera-tion,high safety, minimal invasion, rapid recovery and good aesthetic effect.Double eyelid blepharoplasty with incision method is more suitable for cases with more obvious skin laxity, soft tissue bloating,or with epicanthus need to be corrected at the same time.
