Application effect of modified star flap in nipple reconstruction after breast cancer operation
Objective To evaluate the postoperative effect of nipple reconstruction with modified star flap. Methods This retro-spective study included 20 patients who underwent modified star flap nipple reconstruction in Cancer Hospital affiliated to Guangxi Medi-cal University, and Wuming Hospital affiliated to Guangxi Medical University from November 2013 to February 2023.The safety and effect of operation were evaluated immediately,3 months,6 months and 12 months after operation. Results Only 2 cases had partial nipple necrosis and delayed incision healing, while the rest of the patients healed in one stage and had good symmetry with the healthy side.A-mong them,5 patients received postoperative radiotherapy and chemotherapy,8 patients only received chemotherapy, and 7 patients did not receive radiotherapy or chemotherapy.Nipple reconstruction was performed 3 to 6 months after radiotherapy and chemotherapy. No postoperative complications such as obvious hyperplasia of scar, difficulty in primary closure of the donor area and depression around the nipple were found. All patients were followed up for 5 to 24 months, with a median time of(12.8±4.4)months.The average projection of reconstructed nipple was(13.2±2.6)mm,(11.7±2.6)mm,(9.9±2.7)mm and(7.9±2.2)mm immediately,3 months,6 months and 12 months after operation, and the reversion rate of nipple projection at 3 months,6 months and 12 months after operation was(11.6±5.7)%,(24.8±9.4)%and(37.5±8.8)%respectively.Conclusion The design method of modified star flap is simple, easy to operate during operation, good postoperative beauty and low incidence of complications,it can significantly improve patient satisfaction and is worthy of clinical application.
