Comparison of the efficacy of two clinical therapies to promote healing of ulcerated hemangiomas
Objective To explore the clinical efficacy and safety of two different therapeutic options to promote the healing of ulcers secondary to infantile hemangiomas. Methods Twenty-four children with mild to moderate infantile hemangioma ulcers were admitted to the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery of Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital from August 2023 to July 2024,and were randomly divided into two groups,12 cases/group.They were given topical timolol treatment(three times a day, each time for 20 to 30 minutes)and pulsed dye laser treatment(once a week)until the ulcers were completely healed, respectively. The ulcer healing time, adverse events and oth-er information of the children in each group were recorded separately. Results There was no significant difference in the basic condition of the children and the ulcer manifestations before treatment in both groups. The mean healing time was not statistically different between the topical timolol group and the pulsed dye laser group(P=0.64).No children experienced adverse events such as thermal injury, allergy,or ulcer deterioration. Conclusion Topical timolol and pulsed dye laser were both effective and have comparable healing times in promoting healing of ulcerated hemangiomas.Parents can refer to the frequency and expense of treatment when choosing a treatment modality.
