In this paper, based on multi-temporal remotely senned data in 1990, 1999 and 2006, we analyzed the land use change characteristics in the Urumqi from 1990 to 2006 and investigated the spatial difference of land use structures between different types, by using of transition matrix of land uses types and land use dynamic degree.The results showed that the land - use structure of Urumqi changed dramatically from 1990 to 2006, the construction land, cultivated land, forest land and water area have all been increased.The change of construction land is gaeat, risen by 7 022 hm2, mainly expanded to northern part of the study area; Unused land continued decrease, it is decreased by 11 742 hm2, it is mainly changed to construction land,cultivated land and forest land.
