Effects of substrate and plants on the treatment of rural domestic sewage by constructed wetland
Six constructed wetland systems, named device 1#,2 #,3#,4#,5# and 6 #,were constructed with two kinds of plants, calamus and reed, and three kinds of substrates, quartz sand, activated carbon and coal gangue. The effects of plants, substrates and hydraulic residence time on the treatment of rural domestic sewage were investigated. The results showed that the removal effect of the six device systems on each pollutant became better and better with the increase of hydraulic residence time. When the hydraulic residence time was 48 h,the removal effect of the six device systems on each pollutant reached the best.Under 48 h hydraulic retention time, the chemical oxygen demand(COD),ammonia nitrogen(NH+-N),and total phosphorus(TP)of calamus-activated carbon device 3 # were 97.34%,92.19%and 79.50%,respectively.The effluent quality reached the first class B standard or above of the"Pollutont Discharge Standard of Urban Sewage Treatment Plants"(GB 18918-2002),indicating that the system could be used for rural domestic sewage treatment.
