Salt spray is an effective method to evaluate the durability of materials in marine atmospheric related environment. At present, there are some differences in the constraints on test conditions in salt spray test standards. This paper reviewed multiple domestic and international standards related to neutral salt spray testing, and summarized the effect of environmental conditions on the salt spray testing results.Without consideration of the salt spray test chamber, the effects of parameters, such as temperature, water and NaCl purity, adjustment method of pH value, salt spray settling rate, sample placement angle etc.required by the standards to the test results were analyzed. In addition, the effects of other parameters, such as sample size, which were not required by standards,to the test results were supplemented. Finally, the improvement direction of long-term measurement and monitoring technique for salt spray sedimentation rate and standardized operation of sample cover layer cutting area protection was proposed.
