Study on Demineralization and Remineralization of Tooth Enamel by Atomic Force Microscope
Atomic force microscopy(AFM)is a high-resolution inspection tool that integrates topography visualization and data quantification without sample pretreatment. In this study,AFM was used to visually observe the micromorphology of enamel demineralization and remineralization, and to quantify the roughness and bacterial adhesion force. Also, scanning electron microscopy and microhardness were used to quantify the morphology and hardness values of enamel demineralization and remineralization, which further verified the imaging and quantification effects of AFM.The results show that the surface structure is loose and the roughness increases with the increase of demineralization time. After remineralization, the surface becomes more compact and the roughness decreases with the increase of remineralization time. The other two characterizations obtained similar results, which verified the reliability of AFM detection.
