Harvey Mudd College's Liberal Arts Engineering Education Model and Its Implications
Harvey Mudd College,as a model of liberal arts and sciences engineering colleges in the United States,is located in"science and engineering education in a liberal arts environment",which is an important form of organization for first-class undergraduate engineering education.Through the study of engineering education curriculum objectives,theoretical curriculum system,and practical curriculum system of Harvey Mudd College,it is believed that the practical features of liberal arts engineering education are as follows:taking the concept of student-centered education as the base to cultivate all-rounded people;relying on the structure of general and specialized integrated curriculum to connect the diversified cultivation objectives;taking interdisciplinary research and practice projects as the carrier to advocate knowledge to serve the society;and supporting the cross-border cooperation platform to unite the educational synergies of multiple parties.With the support of interdisciplinary research and practice programs,it advocates knowledge to serve the society;and with the platform of cross-border cooperation,it gathers the synergy of education from various parties.The inspirations of Boya engineering education to the construction of engineering education curriculum system in China are as follows:clarifying the goal orientation,cultivating students'view of engineering society;anchoring the orientation of school running,creating engineering characteristics of the general education course;paying attention to the implementation of the curriculum,building the main participation of the class;promoting the integration of industry and education,strengthening the practice of social responsibility orientation.
