Analysis of the impact of centralized drug procurement on the use of antineoplastic drugs in a hospital based on difference in differences model
Objective To investigate the effect of centralized drug procurement on the use of antitumor original and generic drugs in a hospital. Methods Information on the use of antitumor drugs in our hospital was retrieved for one year before and one year after centralized procurement.Patients were divided into observation and control groups according to whether they used the selected drugs in centralized procurement, and the effects of drug cost, annual average drug cost of patients, total drug use, drug use quantity, drug use amount, and patient treatment shedding on the use of antitumor original drugs and generic drugs in our hospital were analyzed by double difference model method. Results A total of 26 438 study subjects with 10 oral antitumor drugs were included. After the policy was implemented, the annual average drug cost reduction was 58.3%and 2.0%for patients in the observation and control groups, respectively. The total amount of drug use decreased by 25 318 000 yuan compared with that before the policy implementation, and the number of generic drugs used increased by 12.1%and the amount used increased by 3.3%.The number of annual patient treatment offsets decreased by 10.7%as a percentage after the implementation of the policy. Conclusion The centralized drug procurement policy has certain economic advantages.Under the influence of the centralized procurement policy, the drug costs of oncology patients using generic drugs in our hospital have been significantly reduced, and the generic anti-tumor drugs have gradually replaced the original drugs.
