Objective To explore the feasibility of using the linear measurement to evaluate the brain atrophy and study the relationship between hyperintense signal severity and brain atrophy. Methods One hundred and thirty one patients were collected from clinical examiners and health examiners in Yangzhong People's Hospital from September to October 2023,grouped by the severity of WMH,and the bicaudate index,Evans index, huck number, third ventricle width, ventricular index, cella media index, and lateral fissure width were measured and calculated in each group respectively.One-way ANOVA was performed on the linear indexes in each group to assess whether there were differences in brain atrophy by WMH severity. Results There were statistical differences in huck number, third ventricle width, ventricular index, cella media index,Evans index, bicaudate index, and lateral fissure width among subjects with different WMH severity. The results of the multiple comparison analysis showed only the bicaudate index varied between groups. Conclusion Linear measurement can roughly assess the severity of brain atrophy with the severity of WMH.Bicaudate index in commonly used linear indexes may be sensitive to brain atrophy associated with WMH.
