The mediating role of disease perception in coping style and benefit discovery in patients with allergic rhinitis
Objective To investigate the status quo of benefit discovery in patients with allergic rhinitis(AR)and to analyze the relationship between benefit discovery, disease perception and coping style as well as clarify the mediating effect of disease perception in coping style and benefit discovery in patients with AR so as to provide reference for formulating intervention strategies. Methods A total of 225 AR patients from July 2022 to December 2022 were selected.General questionnaire,Simple Disease Perception Scale(BIPQ),Medical Coping Style Questionnaire(MCMQ)and Benefit Finding Scale(BFS)were used. Results The total score of benefit discovery of AR patients was(49.58±7.23)points.The disease perception score was(42.49±8.75)points.The face, avoidance and yield scores were(19.15±3.56)points,(15.13±3.02)points and(9.43±2.86)points,respectively.The differences in benefit discovery score among patients with different disease course, education level, family economic status and medical payment method were statistically significant(P<0.05).The benefit discovery was positively correlated with face(r=0.512,P<0.05)and negatively correlated with disease perception and yield(r=-0.361 and-0.056,P<0.05).Disease perception was negatively correlated with face(r=-0.214,P<0.05),and positively correlated with avoidance and submission(r=0.223 and 0.612,P<0.05).Educational level, economic status, medical payment mode, disease perception, face and submission were the factors influencing the level of benefit discovery in AR patients(P<0.05).Disease perception had an indirect effect on benefit discovery(β= 0.298,P<0.001).The intermediate effect accounted for 36.61%(0.298/0.814).Conclusions The overall level of benefit discovery in AR patients is low.Benefit discovery is related to factors such as education level, economic status, medical payment mode, disease perception, face and submission. As a mediating variable, disease perception can regulate the level of benefit discovery in AR patients by affecting coping styles.
