Study on the correlation between serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D and early carotid atherosclerosis in male patients with visceral obesity
Objective To investigate the relationship between serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D(25(OH)D)levels and early carotid atherosclerosis(ECAS)in male patients with visceral obesity. Methods A total of 264 male patients with visceral obesity at Health Management Center,Zigong First People's Hospital from January 2021 to December 2022 were selected. The patients were divided into a simple visceral obesity group(VO group,n=150)and a visceral obesity combined with ECAS group(VO-ECAS group,n =114)according to the carotid inner-media thickness(CIMT).Vitamin D levels were graded according to the quartiles of blood 25(OH)D,and the subjects were divided into Q1 group(25(OH)D≥24.70 ng/ml),Q2 group(19.70 ng/ml≤25(OH)D<24.70 ng/ml),Q3 group(16.10 ng/ml≤25(OH)D<19.70 ng/ml)and Q4 group(25(OH)D<16.10 ng/ml),66 in each group.Data such as age, body mass index(BMI),blood pressure, blood glucose, blood lipid, uric acid,25(OH)D and visceral fat area(VFA)were collected. The correlation between serum 25(OH)D levels and carotid atherosclerosis in male patients with visceral obesity was analyzed. Results Serum 25(OH)D levels in the VO-ECAS groups was significant lower than that in the VO group(P<0.05).The prevalence rates of ECAS in the Q1,Q2,Q3 and Q4 groups were 24.24%,46.97%,51.52%and 65.15%,respectively(P<0.05).Pearson correlation analysis showed that serum 25(OH)D was negatively correlated with systolic pressure(SBP),fasting blood-glucose(FPG),triglyceride(TG),VFA and BMI in the VO-ECAS group(P<0.05).Logistic regression analysis showed that low levels of 25(OH)D were influencing factors for ECAS in male patients with visceral obesity(P<0.05).Con-clusions Serum 25(OH)D is significantly lower in male patients with visceral obesity combined with carotid atherosclerosis than that in patients with simple visceral obesity. The decrease of 25(OH)D level is an influential factor of ECAS in male patients with visceral obesity.
