Correlation analysis of cerebrospinal fluid parameters between lateral ventricle and lumbar cisterna in patients with tuberculosis hydrocephalus
Objective To explore the differences in use of parameters of cerebrospinal fluid(CSF)in lateral ventricle and in lumbar cistern as a reference for ventriculoperitoneal shunt(VPS)in patients with tuberculosis hydrocephalus(TBH).Methods In this retrospective study,28 TBH patients who underwent VPS were involved. The CSF was collected from lumbar cistern and lateral ventricle before VPS,respectively. The collected CSF was detected by the routine and biochemical testing.Parametric analysis of CSF from the above two different parts was preformed. The surgical efficacy was followed up.Results There was obvious relationship between the level of nucleated cells, glucose, chlorine and protein in lumbar cistern and that in lateral ventricle(P<0.05).The levels of nucleated cells and proteins in CSF of lumbar cistern were significantly higher than those in lateral ventricle(P<0.05).During the later follow-up,except for one patient who lost contact, all patients had good surgical results. Conclusions There is obvious difference of CSF between lateral ventricle and lumbar cistern. It should refer to the parameters of lateral ventricle CSF as a clinical indicator of VPS.
