The effects of acceptance and commitment therapy on post-traumatic stress disorder and post-traumatic growth in patients transferred from the intensive care unit
Objective To investigate the effect of acceptance and commitment therapy on post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD)and post-traumatic growth(PTG)in transferred patients from intensive care unit(ICU).Methods Eighty-six patients transferred from ICU from July 2021 to December 2022 were selected. The patients were divided into an observation group and a control group using random number table method,43 in each group. The control group was given routine nursing intervention. The observation group was combined with acceptance and commitment therapy.PTSD,PTG and return to ICU rate were compared between the two groups. Results The total scores of avoidance/numbness,high alertness, reexperience and PTSD in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05).The total score of personal strength, interpersonal relationships, new possibilities, mental changes and PTG in the observation group were higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).The rate of return to ICU in the ob-servation group was lower than the control group(P<0.05).Conclusions Acceptance and commitment therapy can relieve the PTSD,promote the PTG and reduce the rate of return to ICU.
