Comparative study of spinal pelvic muscle volume between adult spinal malformations and a-symptomatic subjects
Objective To compare the volume of spinal pelvic muscles between adult patients with spinal deformities and a-symptomatic subjects, and to determine its clinical significance. Methods Eighty patients with spinal deformity were selected as study objects. They were divided into a symptomatic group(n=34)and an asymptomatic group(n=46).General clinical data, imaging in-dicators and spinal pelvic muscle volume of the two groups were collected. The correlation between symptoms and spinal pelvic muscle volume was analyzed. Results The spinal pelvic muscle volume, the relative cross-sectional area of gluteus maximus, gluteus medius and gluteus minor in the symptomatic group were significantly smaller than those in the asymptomatic group, and fat infiltration was sig-nificantly larger than that in the asymptomatic group(P<0.05).Person analysis showed that the patient's symptoms of knifeback deformity, hemivertebra deformity, low back stiffness, dyspnea, hip pain and limited movement were significantly negatively correlated with the pelvic muscle volume of the patient(all P<0.05).Conclusions The volume of spinal pelvic muscles in adult spinal malfor-mations is significantly lower than that in asymptomatic subjects.
