In the narrative mode of"love between humans and mermaids",film The Shape of Water shows the resistance of the mar-ginalized groups repressed under the philosophy of"identity"and the breakthrough power of"love".Many images constitute the pow-er field of"seeing and being seen".The highly symbolized images are inseparably related to reality, and the vulnerable groups who"lose their voices"are accompanied by"water",which finally tear open the net of power. The film is not satisfied with telling a story of"mermaid love",but explores more possibilities beyond the binary opposition with the female standpoint of eco-feminism and the mixed subject of post-colonialism,thus showing certain characteristics of post-modernism.
