Family Ethical Imagination in Zhang Ailing's Novels from Perspective of Parent-child Intergenerational Relationship
During the May Fourth Movement period, the relationship between family and country, which was integrated with tradi-tional politics and ethics, was deemed unsuitable for the development of modern Chinese society. As a result, intellectuals advocated the construction of a new family ethical relationship.Zhang Ailing's imagination of family ethical relationships stems from the May Fourth Movement trend of family ethical reform and her experience as a victim of disorderly family ethics.Through depicting an un-healthy intergenerational relationship between parents and children in which the father lacks kindness and the son lacks filial piety,Zhang Ailing criticizes and deconstructs traditional family ethics while constructing an imaginary new model based on equality,indi-viduality and freedom.
