A Probe Into the Etiology and Pathogenesis of Wheezing Disease-Asthmatic Syndrome-Lung Distension
The clinical manifestations of modern medical asthma chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)overlap(ACO)are closely related to the descriptions of asthma, asthma syndrome, and lung distension in traditional Chinese medicine literature. Its characteristics include multiple occurrences in the population, more frequent attacks, faster decline in lung func-tion,and unclear pathological mechanisms.International medical academic organizations such as the Global Initiative for Asthma Prevention and Treatment(GINA)have long been paying attention to ACO research.Currently, diagnostic standards are not uni-fied,and treatment methods are still limited. The understanding of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in tradition-al Chinese medicine has a long history.Ancient literature has detailed records of the name, etiology, and pathogenesis of asth-ma.Based on the unique clinical symptoms of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease,it has been found that there have been many records of this disease since the Qin and Han dynasties.Exploring ancient literature,it has been found that although chron-ic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma belong to different diseases, their causes and pathogenesis are interrelated, both of which belong to the syndrome of deficiency and excess,so they can be combined and treated together. The article summarizes the etiology and pathogenesis of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)through ancient Chinese medicine litera-ture,combined with modern medical research results, and summarizes the causes of ACO from four aspects:invasion of external pathogens, overuse of the seven emotions, inappropriate diet, and physical factors. The pathogenesis of ACO is explained from the aspects of liver and kidney deficiency, phlegm stasis, and phlegm heat stagnation in the lungs,in order to provide new diag-nostic and therapeutic ideas.
