Functional constipation,as one of the common functional bowel diseases,can be classified as"constipation"in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM).Although its location is in the large intestine,the spleen,as the foundation of the acquired nature and the biochemical source of Qi and blood,can cause constipation when its function of transportation and transformation is disturbed and the other four organs are affected.Based on the theory of"spleen governing the other four organs",the pathogene-sis of functional constipation is explored and with the core of regulating spleen and stomach in the middle earth,the treatment of functional constipation is achieved by tonifying Qi and blood,warming kidney and Yang,elevating the clear and descending tur-bidity,and dredging liver and regulating Qi,with the aim of providing theoretical basis for the treatment of functional constipation from spleen in the clinic.
