Mechanism of Bile Acid-Intestinal Hormone Axis Regulating Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Research Progress in Traditional Chinese Medicine
Bile acids play an important role in promoting the digestion of intestinal fat and maintaining cholesterol metabolic homeostasis in the body.Recent studies have shown that bile acids can act as signaling molecules to activate nuclear receptors and membrane receptors respectively,promoting the secretion of intestinal hormones fibroblast growth factor 19 and glucagon-like peptide-1 and playing a role in the regulation of glucose in the body.Changes in the bile acid profile have been implicated in the pathogenesis of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes,and farnesoid X receptor and G protein-coupled bile acid receptor-5 have been shown to modulate bile acid metabolism.In this paper,the mechanism of action of bile acid-intestinal hormone axis in regulating type 2 diabetes was discussed,and relevant literature reviews were conducted from the perspectives of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)theory,TCM monomer/extract and TCM compound,aiming to provide new ideas for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
