The Significance of Literature and the Means of Review from the Perspective of Multiple Methodology in Qualitative Research
Qualitative research is based on multiple methodologies.Since different methodological orientations have different views on the significance of literature, the necessity and scope of review, and ways to conduct a review, the practice is subject to potential conflict and contradiction. In the post-positivist orientation, science progresses in the process of solving the problems left by the predecessors, and literature review is,therefore,an indispensable and important part of scientific research.Phenomenologists believe that previous work is prone to forming presuppositions that obscure the truth or essence of things and, therefore, does not advocate or even strongly oppose a systematic literature review.Hermeneutics believe human knowledge of things is obtained from a certain perspective. It does not reject literature but views it as"a view"or"a perspective"rather than proven knowledge.Social constructionists, like hermeneutics, take a perspectivist position, holding that the incorporated literature contributes to the construction of a certain"fact"with the researcher and the object of research, hence essentially a constructive force. The epistemological reflexivity should be embedded in the literature review of qualitative research. The literature review of mixed research can only achieve its methodological consistency within a social constructionist framework.
