Chinese Indigenous Psychology and the Construction of Independent Knowledge System of Chinese Psychology:An Interview with Professor Yang Chungfang
Chinese Indigenous Psychology,which originated in Taiwan,China,aims to break away from the Western psychological theories,methods and knowledge system established on the Chinese cultural traditions,"study Chinese as Chinese",and ultimately construct a psychological knowledge system based on Chinese cultural/social/historical background and suitable for Chinese people.Since the 1980s,Professor Yang Chungfang,who has experienced the cultural reflection of social psychology in the United States,has long been travelling across China's Mainland,Taiwan and Hong Kong.At the beginning of the reconstruction of psychology and social psychology in China's Mainland,she introduced Chinese Indigenous Psychology to the mainland psychology circle,trained talents,and reconstructed the psychology department of Sun Yat-sen University,which had played an important role in promoting the development of mainland psychology.Until recently,the mainland social science community has been on the rise of the tide of the construction of China's independent knowledge system,and the debate on the indigenization of psychology and social science has been hot topic.Professor Yang Chungfang,with her over 40 years of experience in exploring Chinese indigenous psychology and the psychological knowledge system from the perspective of Chinese culture built around Zhongyong Psychology,provides a model and valuable experience reference for how to construct an independent knowledge system of Chinese psychology.
