Type Analysis and Improvement Strategies of Rural Pre-Service Teachers' Commitment to Rural Education:Evidence from a Sample of 2 514 from 8 Provinces
Pre-service teacher education with a fixed graduation pathway in rural schools is China's most important source of rural teacher replenishment.Pre-service teachers'commitment to rural education affects the stability and long-term development of the rural faculty. This present study surveyed the commitment to rural education of 2 514 pre-service teachers enrolled in pre-service education programs offering a permanent position in rural schools using latent profile modelling and polynonial logistic regression analysis.Participants were from 20 universities in 8 provinces representing eastern, central, and western China. The scale has two dimensions, namely obligation obeying and teaching mission fulfilling, and the analysis indicated five profiles of these pre-service teachers'commitment, including the idealistic profile, agreeing profile, hesitating profile, escapism profile, and denying profile.Meanwhile, gender, whether being the single child in the family, tiers of learning institution, rural living experience, and grade significantly predicted the likelihood of belonging to different profiles.Based on the willingness of rural pre-service teachers to return to their hometowns, optimization strategies are proposed.Firstly,to create a flexible selection mode for targeted normal students,to improve talent cultivation and curriculum design to reflect the characteristics of rural development, and to ensure high-quality internship opportunities and outcomes for pre-service teachers.
