Effect of transcutaneous auricular vagus nerver stimulation on heart rate variability and body mass index in young overweight subjects
Objective To observe the relationship between Body Mass Index(BMI)and Heart Rate Variability(HRV)in young people, and to explore the correlation between different BMI and the risk of cardiovascular events. And the regulatory effect and clinical efficacy of Transcutaneous Auricular Vagus Nerve Stimulation(taVNS)on autonomic nervous system(ANS)and HRV in young overweight(OW)patients. Methods 51 cases of overweight,27 cases of normal control group and 26 cases of obese control group. After collecting the observed indicators of the three groups,51 overweight cases were randomly divided into the o-verweight treatment group(25 cases)and the overweight control group(26 cases). The overweight treatment group was treated with taVNS,the overweight control group, the normal control group and the obesity control group were given the same lifestyle in-tervention.The frequency domain indexes of HRV before and after treatment were compared:total power(TP),low frequency(LF),high frequency(HF),ratio of low frequency to high frequency(LF/HF),BMI,blood pressure,etc.Results(1)Compared with the normal control group, there were significant differences in systolic blood pressure, body weight,BMI,waist circumference and hip circumference in overweight and obesity control groups(P<0.05).Correlation analysis showed that body weight,BMI,waist circumference and hip circumference were positively correlated with systolic blood pressure.(2)Before treat-ment:Compared with the normal control group, the levels of Total Power(TP),High Frequency(HF)and Low Frequency(LF)in the overweight and obese control group were significantly lower than those in the normal control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Correlation analysis showed that BMI was negatively correlated with TP,HF and LF.(3)After tavns treatment:the HF of overweight treatment group was significantly higher than that of obesity control group and over-weight control group((P<0.05),compared with overweight control group, the weight and BMI index of overweight treatment group were significantly lower(P<0.05).Conclusion With the increase of body mass index in young people, their blood pres-sure increased and HRV decreased, suggesting the existence of autonomic nerve dysfunction and the risk of cardiovascular events.TaVNS can be used as a simple and effective method to prevent and treat overweight, and can reduce the risk of cardiovascular e-vents in overweight patients by regulating the excitability of the vagus nerve.
