Objective To explore the application effect of perospirone and risperidone in the treatment of schizophrenia. Methods A total of 100 patients with schizophrenia admitted to the Third People's Hospital of Ji'an City from May 2021 to December 2023 were selected and divided into two groups based on different treatment methods:the perospirone group and the risperidone group, with 50 patients in each group. The perospirone group was treated with perospirone, while the risperidone group was treated with risperidone. The mental symptoms, cognitive function, and serum prolactin(PRL)level were compared between the two groups. Results After 8 weeks of treatment, the scores and total scores of positive and negative syndrome scale(PANSS)in both groups of patients were lower than those before treatment, and the scores of the risperidone group were lower than those in the perospirone group, with statistical significances(P<0.05).After 8 weeks of treatment, the scores and total scores of Montreal cognitive assessment(MoCA)in both groups of patients were higher than those before treatment, and the scores of the risperidone group was higher than those in the perospirone group, with statistical significances(P<0.05).After 8 weeks of treatment, the serum level of PRL in the risperidone group was higher than that before treatment and higher than that in the perospirone group, with statistical significance(P<0.05);there was no statistically significant difference in serum PRL level of patients in the perospirone group compared to that before treatment(P>0.05).Conclusion Risperidone has a better therapeutic effect on schizophrenia, with more significant improvements in patients'mental symptoms and cognitive function.
