Text Typology and the English Translation of the Public Signs at the Memorial Hall and the Former Residence of Li Dazhao
The German functionalist school's text typology theory is applied to analyze the problems of the English translation of the public signs at the Memorial Hall and the former residence of Li Dazhao, who was one of the founders of the Chinese Communist Party.Strategies for translating public signs are proposed as follows:in translating texts with equally important informative function and appellative func-tion,priority should usually be given to the former;when informative function and expressive function are equally important, the former should be prioritized, while the latter should be achieved at varying degrees;when expressive and appellative functions are equally important, the latter should be prioritized.
