A Study on Subjective and Objective Restraining Factors in Literary Translation:Taking the English Translation of Yang Hsien-yi's A Dream of Red Mansions and David Hawkes'The Story of the Stone as Examples
From the perspectives of publishing,editing,translator's translation concept and attitude towards the original work,a comparative study is conducted between the English translations of A Dream of Red Mansions(by Yang Hsien-yi & Gladys Yang)and The Story of the Stone(by David Hawkes &John Minford).It is concluded that literary translation should be conducted by Chinese side,giving full play to the advantages of Chinese cultural context of Chinese translators and experts,reviewing translation strictly.At the same time,we will learn the experience of foreign mainstream publishing institutions and professional translators,extensively engage in international cooperation,and promote the high-quality and efficient dissemination of Chinese literature.
