It is clearly recorded in Cui Shouyu's Epitaph that he once served as Zhang Qiqiu's assis-tant to"Xifan(西蕃)"because of"the funeral of the monarch"in a certain year,so as to"preserve the old friendship and determine the successor ruler".However,"Xifan"mentioned in the epitaph can not be di-rectly understood as Tubo(Tibetan regime in ancient China).Through the research and interpretation of the relevant contents of the epitaph,combined with the relevant historical materials,it can be seen that"Xifan"in the epitaph is not Tubo,and the two cannot be equated.In fact,the term"Xifan"mentioned in the epitaph should refer to Turgesh.
