An Analysis of the Social Implication of Space and the Theory of Social Spatialization
With the"spatial turn"in social science research,the theory of"spatial problem"or"so-cial spatialization"has attracted more and more attention and importance from scholars.This research turn shows that sociologists have anchored the social implication of space,recognized the sociological signifi-cance of space,and transcended the limitation of simply viewing space as a"container"or external back-ground outside of social actions or social phenomena.On the basis of sorting out the social cognition and so-cial spatialization theory of space,this paper focuses on explaining the basic attributes and characteristics of social space,and emphasizes that when analyzing social space issues from a sociological perspective,we should not focus on"things in space",but on the spatial production itself as a social phenomenon and process.When we incorporate spatial elements into people's social activities and define and understand them from the perspective of social processes,we can re-understand social phenomena and spatial issues from a new perspective,thereby obtaining"spatial imagination".Therefore,social space issues could be analyzed from the perspective of relationalism theory,and social space should be regarded as a relational social entity with its own characteristics and regulations.That is,space is not external to social processes,but is manifested in the form of relationships as the extension of social actions and social relations,which is the basis of its social implication.The relationalist perspective can help us understand the relational attrib-utes of space and explain social spatial relations and their social significance better.In combination with the current new era task of building China's independent philosophical and social science knowledge sys-tem,we should strengthen the awareness of spatialization theory analysis on the basis of systematically ex-ploring the basic theories and knowledge system construction of spatial sociology,and promote the innova-tion and development of this new discipline based on the needs of Chinese social research.
