Cortex fraxini is a common natural plant product with homology between medicine and food.It plays an important role in the pre-vention and treatment of diseases.Its active ingredient Esculin has obvious pharmacological activities in the aspects of anti-inflammatory,antioxidant,anti-tumor,lowering high uric acid and diuresis.The extraction methods include reflux,liquid-solid extraction,ultrasonic ex-traction and microwave extraction.The separation and purification methods include macroporous resin adsorption.In this paper,the extrac-tion,purification and pharmacological activities of Esculin were reviewed in order to provide a theoretical basis for the further study and full exploitation of Esculin.
