The Effects of Panax quinquefolium By-product Powder on the Serum Bio-chemical Indicators,Antioxidant Capacity, and Meat Quality in Yellow-feathered Broiler Chickens
In order to study the effects of Panax quinquefolium by-product powder on the serum biochemical indicators, antioxidant capacity, and meat quality of yellow-feathered broiler.A total of one hundred and sixty 7-day-old yellow-feathered broiler in this study were randomly divided into four groups with 4 replicates in each group.Groups Ⅰ,Ⅱ,and Ⅲ were supplemented with 1%,3%,and 5%by-products from the Panax quinquefolium, respectively, while group Ⅳ served as the control group with basic feed. The experiment lasted for 100 days. The re-sults showed that the by-products from the Panax quinquefolium significantly decreased the blood glucose content of broilers(P<0.05)and significantly decreased the content of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol in serum(P<0.05).The total antioxidant capacity and glut-athione peroxidase of the experimental groups were significantly higher than those of the control group(P<0.01).The pH values,bright-ness,redness,and yellowness of the breast and thigh muscles in Groups Ⅰ and Ⅱ were significantly higher than those in the control group(P<0.01).Drip loss and shear force values of the breast muscles in the experiment groups were significantly higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).This study concluded that under the current test conditions, adding 1%to 3%by-products from the Panax quinquefolium to the feed could effectively adjust the appearance and color of breast and thigh muscles, meeting the demands of the market consumers.
