Research Progress on the Mechanism of Licorice Intervention on Alzheimer's Disease
Alzheimer's disease(AD)is a degenerative disease of the central nervous system. Its clinical manifestations such as learning and memory disorders and decreased daily living abilities, posing a huge threat to the health of the elderly. In recent years, the research on the treatment of AD with traditional Chinese medicine has gradually flourished. It has the characteristics of multi-component,multi-channel,multi-target overall regulation, high safety, low toxicity and side effects, and meets the complex needs of diseases.Glycyrrhiza uralensis,as a traditional Chinese herbal medicine with the same source of food and medicine, has various pharmacological activities such as antiviral, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory effects. The research has found that licorice extract can exert anti AD effects by anti-inflammatory,anti-oxidant stress, and inhibiting Tau protein phosphorylation. The active components of licorice monomers and their compounds can not only achieve anti AD effects through the above mechanisms, but also through inhibition the deposition of β-amyloid protein, the protection of cholinergic neurons, and the inhibition of neuronal apoptosis are all aimed at preventing and treating AD.This study reviews the effective extract of licorice the active components of licorice monomers and the mechanism of licorice in preventing and treating AD in recent years,in order to provide theoretical basis for licorice in preventing and treating AD.
