Effect of Natto Consumption on Intestinal Homeostasis in Mice with Antibiotic Diarrhea
To investigate the protective effect of natto feed on intestinal flora and intestinal homeostasis in mice with antibiotic-induced di-arrhea.C57BL/6 mice were fed with 2.5%natto for 19 weeks, and the model of antibiotic-induced diarrhea(AAD)was established by in-tragastric administration of compound antibiotics for 7 days[110 mg/mL,0.4 mL/(d·per)],antibiotics were then stopped and the free diet resumed for 7 days. The physiological indexes, intestinal injury and the changes of intestinal flora structure and function were determined after modeling and recovery. The results showed that long-term consumption of natto could alleviate the weight loss, colon shortening and pathological damage in AAD mice. The natto diet also increases colon SOD levels by improving abnormal levels of serum inflammatory factors, endotoxin and colonic immunoglobulins, decreasing the content of MDA in AAD mice colon.More importantly,long-term con-sumption of natto increased colon short-chain fatty acid levels and increased the abundance of beneficial bacteria such as Bacillus,Enteroc-occus and Allobaculum in AAD mice. The changes of these flora structures are significantly related to the pathological indexes of AAD mice improved by natto, and natto significantly accelerates the recovery of AAD mice.Long-term consumption of natto can have beneficial effects on oxidative stress, inflammation level, intestinal flora structure and intestinal homeostasis in AAD mice, thus protecting mice from intest-inal injury caused by antibiotics.
