Study on the Adaptability of Octagonal Oil Cell Size and Density to Environmental Factors in Different Regions
To study the adaptive relationship between oil cell size and density in star anise fruits from different regions(Yunfu,Guangdong,Wuzhou,Guangxi,Kunming,Yunnan)and environmental factors(temperature, precipitation, humidity),and to clarify whether Yunfu,Guangdong is a suitable planting area for star anise.Using safflower star anise fruit as the material, the size and distribution of oil cells in star anise fruit were studied by sectioning and microscopic observation,as well as their correlation with environmental factors. The results showed that the oil cell density varied in different parts of the star anise fruit in different regions. The oil cell density of star anise fruits in Guangdong and Yunnan were more pronounced in the kernel, while the oil cell density of star anise fruits in Guangxi was more prominent in the seed coat. The size of oil cells shows a significant"decreasing"trend from the peel to the kernel,Guangdong(32 024.075 μm2,24 834.731 μm2,32 024.075 μm2).The individual numbers of fruit coat, seed coat, and kernel in the oil cells are greater than those in Guangxi(23 894.458 μm2,15 385.529 μm2,2 532.881 μm2)and Yunnan(20 310.933 μm2,4 109.318 μm2,3 250.685 μm2).The climate resources in Yunfu,Guangdong and Wuzhou,Guangxi are similar and both conform to the suitable growth range of star anise. The size of oil cells is positively correlated with annual average temperature, relative humidity, and annual precipitation, while the density of oil cells is negatively correlated with annual average temperature, relative humidity, and annual precipitation. The size and distribution of star anise oil cells in dif-ferent regions are correlated with the environmental factors in the region.Among them, the climate conditions, fruit oil cell size and density, and their correlation with the environmental factors in the Yunfu area of Guangdong are superior. Therefore, based on climatic conditions, the Yunfu area in Guangdong can be classified as a suitable planting area for star anise.
