Antiseptic Effects of Cinnamon and Cloves Volatile Oil Combined against Main Periodontal Pathogens
In order to study the antimicrobial effects of cinnamon volatile oil and cloves volatile oil on periodontal pathogens.Cinnamon and cloves volatile oil were extracted by steam distillation. The inhibition zone diameters, minimum inhibition concentrations(MICs)and the antimicrobial activities of two volatile oils compound on periodontal pathogen(such as Fusobacterium nueleatum,Prevotella inberme-dia and so on).Cinnamon vloatgilo oil showed that different antimicrobial effects against different experimental strains with their inhibition zone diameters range from 10 to 42 mm,and their MIC range from 2.5 to 20 mg/mL.Cloves vloatgilo oil showed that different antimicrobial effects against different experimental strains with their inhibition zone diameters range from 8 to 25 mm,and their MIC range from 5 to 40 mg/mL.The combined use of cinnamon and cloves vloatgilo oils had synergic effects on P.intermedia, additive effects on Fnucleatum,P.gingivalis,A.naeslundii S.mutans, and indifferent effects on A.viscosus and C.albicans.
