Musk Yield and Quality of Sub-adult Forest Musk Deer(Moschus bere-zovskii)and Relationship Between Age and Musk Yield
To supplement the musk yield and quality traits of sub-adult forest musk deer(Moschus berezovskii),we analyzed the spatio-tem-poral response relationship between age and musk yield. The average musk yield of 88 forest musk deer at different ages(1.7~14.7 years old)was collected individually;the yield, color and shape of musk from 10 forest musk deer in the sub-adult age group were observed and recorded. The results showed that musk yield of sub-adult musk deer was normally distributed(W=0.855,P=0.066>0.05),with a rang from 6.20 g to 16.50 g,and the average musk yield was(9.40±3.311)g,which varied greatly(CV=35.223%);low musk yield individuals was 70%,medium yield individuals was 20%,high yield individuals was 10%.Dark brown musk was 30%,brown musk was 50%,light brown and tan musk were respectively 10%,dry powder was 30%,powdery musk was 60%,dry mud musk was 10%,there were no sig-nificant difference between musk yield and color,shape(P>0.05).A curve regression model curve regression model with high fitting degree(R2=0.83 5 8)was established, there was a significant negative correlation(r=-0.646,P=0.017<0.05).In summary, the musk yield of sub-adult forest musk deer was relatively lower, high dispersion and breeding potential, and the musk was mostly brown and powdery with better qual-ity,the musk yield had no correlation with color and shape. The musk yield showed a trend of rapid increase to peak with age,a small oscillatory decrease during the peak period,a significant decrease after 7.7 years old,and a small increase and then a rapid decrease again after 8.7 years old.
