Two Parameters to Quickly Evaluate the Railway Wheel Profile Wear Abatement Performance and Their Application in Profile Optimization
Evaluating the wear abatement performance of different wheel profiles is helpful in developing new wheel profiles. The current evaluation method mainly consists of building a multi-body dynamic simulation model of vehicle and then calculating the wheel wear index or material waste during operation on the simulated railway line. This method is relative accurate but the calculation cost is high. Therefore, developing a method that can quickly evaluate the wheel profile wear abatement performance is significant. This article introduces two parameters to quickly evaluate the wear abatement performance of different profiles:one is the contact concentration index(CCI)proposed by Polach to evaluate the contact consistency and the tread wear abatement performance;the other is the contact probability ratio(CPR)to evaluate the contact avoiding capability and the wear abatement performance of the wheel flange. On this basis, the two parameters are introduced into the design of wheel profiles, and the wheel profile optimization method based on the objective CCI and the objective CPR is proposed. The long-term wear simulation further proves the correctness of this method, showing that the wheel with a low-CCI profile is applicable to the line dominated by straight lines or large-radius curves, while the wheel with a low-CPR profile is applicable to the line dominated by small-radius curves.
