A study on the Impact of New Railway Construction on Adjacent Railway Deformation
To mitigate the impact of a new railway on an adjacent existing railway and prevent settlement-induced deformation disasters,a three-dimensional numerical model was developed using the advanced finite element software Midas GTS-NX for a new railway project in proximity to an existing railway. The simulation encompasses foundation excavation, subgrade filling,as well as settlement and deformation of the existing railway subgrade and nearby bridge during train operations. Results show that the maximum horizontal displacement of the existing subgrade is 3.7 mm with a maximum vertical displacement of 3.0 mm.Similarly, the maximum horizontal displacement observed for the existing bridge is 1.9 mm,accompanied by a maximum vertical displacement of 0.8 mm.The influence exerted by the new railway on both the existing railway roadbed and bridge remains within acceptable limits, and it is practical to effectively mitigate settlement-related hazards throughout construction and operation.
