Damage mechanism analysis of magnesium-carbon bricks in ladle refining furnace and preventive measures
Refined magnesia carbon bricks for steel ladles belong to non burning carbon composite refractory mate-rials.They are made from high melting point alkaline oxide magnesium oxide with a melting point of 2800℃and high melting point carbon materials that are difficult to be penetrated by slag.Various non oxide additives are added and com-bined with carbon based binders. In response to the problem of large fluctuations in the service life of refining ladles, based on changes in the composition of refining slag and the physical and chemical properties of magnesium carbon bricks at the slag line, the reasons for the damage of LF ladle magnesium carbon bricks are analyzed from several aspects such as chemi-cal reaction melting loss,high-temperature vacuum decomposition volatilization, slag erosion, steel liquid erosion, and arc thermal shock.Effective preventive measures are formulated to improve the service life of the ladle lining.
